Now until Tax time – Free income tax preparation services. NeighborWorks® Waco, in partnership with AARP Tax-Aide and A.J. Moore Academy, announces that free income tax preparation services will be offered to the public beginning January 22. Eight sites will be open in Waco; Marlin and Mexia will also have a local site available. The most current information about site locations, as well as days and hours of operation, can be accessed by dialing 2-1-1 in the Waco area. Customers should bring a photo ID, all income statements for 2008, and social security cards for each person claimed on the return. April 25 – “Wonder Women” Self-Defense class fundraiser for the Family Abuse Center. Two classes, one at 10:00 and the other at 1:00. Texas Dynasty Gymnasium, 5406 Franklin Avenue next to the Roomstore. The cost is $ 5 per person or $ 15 per family, entertainment and refreshments included. The class will be taught by Hannah Orosco and will include several tactics on personal defense for women and a lesson on safety planning in different situations. All proceeds will go directly to the Family Abuse Center. Pre- Registration is suggested but walk-ins are welcome. April 27 – Deadline for 2009 Farmer’s Market Promotion Program Grant applications. The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has announced the availability of approximately $5 million in competitive grant funds in fiscal year (FY) 2009 to be awarded through the Farmers’ Market Promotion Program (FMPP). This competitive program is administered by the Marketing Grants and Technical Assistance Branch (MSTAB), Marketing Services Division (MSD) of AMS and is designed to promote the domestic consumption of agricultural commodities by expanding direct producer-to-consumer marketing opportunities. Direct producer-to-consumer marketing proposals that may be funded include projects addressing issues related to farmers markets, roadside stands, community supported agriculture.
