Volunteers needed for Texas Mission of Mercy event in August. - Central Texas Senior Ministry, Potters Vessel Ministries, and the Area Agency on Aging are coordinating a large event to provide dental care and other needed services to over 1000 individuals in McLennan County. Many, many volunteers are needed for all kinds of jobs. Event dates are August 13 & 14. Part-time job available at the World Hunger Farm – WHRI seeks a Farm Operations Assistant. The job is a half-time position reporting to the WHRI Farm Manager. The individual will provide technical assistance for farm operations and facilities. WHRI farm operations currently include: 60-member fresh market community supported agriculture (CSA), Livestock enterprises (Grade-A goat dairy, poultry, rabbits & bees), Certified Organic pecan orchard, Food crops (grains & legumes) for demonstration and farm consumption. Meals on Wheels Summer Volunteers needed – Volunteers needed to deliver meals to the homebound older adults through the Meals On Wheels program. Give ONE hour of your week to help touch the life of someone in need. We are looking for a few good “Summer” Volunteers to deliver meals while our “Sustaining” Volunteers take their summer vacations. If parents want to teach their children about community service and respect for older adults, Meals On Wheels delivery is a wonderful way to communicate these values. We will provide training and orientation before anyone has to go out on a delivery route. It takes 45-60 minutes to deliver one route to approximately 12-15 people. June 2-4 – Ninth Annual Funder’s Forum and Conference in Winnsboro, Texas. – A Circle of Ten, Inc.-Network for Collaboration (C10), the City of Winnsboro and national, state and regional partners are sponsoring the Ninth Annual Funders’ Forum & Conference in downtown Winnsboro, Texas. June 7 – August 20 – Summer food service program — Waco I.S.D. is once again be sponsoring the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) this summer. June 8 – HUD Continuum of Care Grant Application and Pre-Proposal Workshop. – Time: 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Place: City of Waco City Hall, at 300 Austin Ave, basement conference room. The Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition will be submitting a proposal to the Department of Housing and Urban Development for funding under the HUD Continuum of Care Program. The HUD Continuum of Care grant is a very competitive federal grant for housing and services for homeless persons. The Coalition has identified priority needs, among which are: Permanent Supportive Housing; HMIS (Homeless Management Information System; Substance Abuse Counseling; Renewed Transitional Housing; Transitional Shelter for Youth, Children; and Mental Health Services. The HUD Continuum of Care Grant requires matching funds for most projects. Please attend the Pre-Proposal workshop to obtain more information. Pre-proposals will be due by 4:30 p.m. June 22, 2010. June 10 - McLennan County Hunger Coalition (MCHC) meeting – 11:45-1:00, Caritas of Waco Conference Room, 300 S. 15th. A coalition of representatives of food pantries, feeding programs, governmental agencies, faith-based organizations, businesses, and interested individuals committed to solving the problems of food insecurity and hunger in the local area, the MCHC meets monthly, usually on the second Thursday of each month. Care Net is searching for volunteers who have a heart to minister to men and women facing an unplanned pregnancy. They have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities including facilitating classes, event planning, peer counseling, office support and many others.
