Volunteer Docs/Nurses needed to serve uninsured poor in “Donation Medical Clinic.” Each night the line is waiting to see the doctor! In the midst of the wild healthcare debate, Mission Waco continues to focus on delivery of services to the poor and marginalized who have acute needs. On- going volunteer opportunities at Friends for Life - For twenty years, Friends for Life has been recruiting, training and organizing volunteers to help the elderly live independently as long as possible and to improve their quality of life. They have two current and on-going needs for volunteers:
- Volunteers to provide transportation for clients to/from grocery store, Dr. visits, shopping, etc. (Required volunteer orientation provided).
- Volunteers to provide assessments/evaluation of homes of those clients living in their homes
( Special Training provided).

Head Start or Early Head Start? EOAC Head Start offers comprehensive child
development services for children 3-4 years of age. Families qualify by
established Federal guidelines. EOAC is also the grantee for the Early Head
Start program that offers services for Infants, Toddlers and Pregnant Women.

Tuesdays and Thursdays – “Donor Clinic” Open to Uninsured - Meyer Center, 1226 Washington. If you are one of the 46 million uninsured poor in America, the choices for healthcare is very limited…especially in a compassionate atmosphere where each patient knows God’s love is there! Patients with acute needs and who have no insurance (including no Medicaid or Medicare) are welcome to show up just before 5:00 on any Tuesday or Thursday for help. A small donation of any kind is requested, but no one will be turned away. Health care providers are also welcome to volunteer. Call 254.753.4900 for more info.
Thursday evenings –”Outpatient” Alcohol/Drug Treatment at the Meyer Center - Men’s Group is 6:30-7:30 p.m.; Women’s Group is 7:15-8:15p.m. Both are at the Meyer Center, 1226 Washington. Need help and want a Christian atmosphere? Because everyone struggling with addiction cannot enter a residential treatment program, Mission Waco has expanded its’ Recovery Program to now include weekly treatment on Tuesday evenings for those struggling. Application is required. Application and screening are done there with Kelvin Gilmore. Trained professionals lead the program. For more information call the Meyer Center at 254-296-9866.
Pets spayed/neutered for Free - Low-income families can have their pets spayed or neutered for free, thanks to a grant from the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Animal Birth Control Clinic in Waco, Texas, 1531 Wooded Acres, 776 7303, www.animalbirthcontrol.org.
