      • January 12 – Act Locally Waco Book Club: Organizational Meeting — Please join us to help kick off the Act Locally Waco Book Club. We will hold an organizational meeting at 6:00 on Thursday, January 12 at the Dancing Bear Pub (1117 Speight, across from the 11th Street HEB, next door to “Food for Thought”). We will pick our first book and decide details like where, when and how often to meet. Hope to see you there for some great discussion!

      • January 25 – Volunteer orientation for Project Homeless Connect - Project Homeless Connect is a community wide collaboration to bring together, for one day, agencies and services whose work impacts those experiencing homelessness to create a “one-stop shop” with the goal of ending homelessness.  Volunteers are needed.  Volunteer Orientation will be January 25, 2011, from 6:30 – 7:00 PM at the Greater Waco Chamber.       • January 26 – Project Homeless Connect – PHC is a community wide collaboration to bring together, for one day, agencies and services whose work impacts those experiencing homelessness to create a “one-stop shop” with the goal of ending homelessness. The services at PHC include areas of housing, healthcare, employment, and other quality of life resources in our community. At PHC 2011 we served around 130 individuals experiencing (or at risk of) homelessness, 40 different helping agencies were present, and around 80 additional volunteers came to help. PHC 2012 will be held at Waco Convention Center on Thursday, January 26, 2012, and run from 9am – 12pm. <MORE>
      • January 26 – CRRC Quarterly Meeting – NEW LOCATION. The CRRC has become part of St. Alban’s Outreach program and our quarterly meetings will now take place there.The meeting is 5:30 to 7:30pm.       • January 26 – Dr. Gerardo Marti from Davidson College will be at Baylor University January 26-27. Dr. Marti is one of the leading sociologists studying multiracial congregations. He is the author of three significant books on this topic: A Mosaic of Believers (2005), Hollywood Faith (2008), and Worship Across the Racial Divide (2012). He will deliver a talk about his latest book on Thursday afternoon, January 26: ”Have You Seen Our Gospel Choir?” Worship, Music, and the Integration of Races in Multiracial Churches. <MORE>
      • January 29 – Jazz Concert benefitting WesleyKids – A jazz concert featuring Charles Winslow, Jr. and The Dallas Jazz Quartet will be held on Sunday, January 29 at 4 p.m. at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church, 1300 Austin Ave. Myrna Beckett-Burnside will be the featured vocalist. Tickets are $10.00 / $5.00 for children 14 and under. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at Floyd’s Audio Capital at 1313 Dallas St. or at Marilyn’s Gift Gallery at 818 Elm St. The concert will benefit The WesleyKids Ministry, a ministry committed to walking alongside parents in need and their children.       • January 27 - Foxfire Friday – Soap Making. 6pm. At Urban Gardening Coalition Headquarters – 1526 N. 11th Street. Come learn how to make soap with goat’s milk, beeswax – and just plain old castile. Participants will learn hands-on how to make one batch of soap.
