  • March 2 -Initial planning/brainstorming meeting for the 2012 Homelessness and Hunger Awareness Week (HHAW). If you are interested in being part of the initial planning for Waco’s HHAW 2012 the first meeting will be March 2 at Caritas of Waco at 1:30. HHAW is a nationwide event that takes place in November. It is a week-long event that attempts to highlight the hunger and homelessness problem in our communities while at the same time doing something to change it.   • March 3 – Gut Pack Run – Benefitting Mission Waco’s arts program, including this Spring’s “Wizard of Oz” performance by the MW Children’s Program. Two miles. One Gut Pack. No Regrets. <MORE>
  • March 6 – “Do We Truly Believe in Pluralism and Diversity? Faith-Based Organizations’ Religious Freedom Rights” – Stephen Monsma Lecture at Baylor University. 3:30 in Kayser Auditorium. <MORE>
  • March 7 – Poverty Presentation– Please join us to hear Ashley Thornton give an update on what she has learned working on the City Council appointed Poverty Solutions Steering Committee. Lake Shore Baptist Church, 5801 Bishop Drive, Waco. (Right next door to Mountainview elementary) Dinner is served from 5:15 – 6:00 for $6.00. The seminar will begin at 6:20.   • March 19 thru 23 - ”Women in the World Economy” Conference –  the McBride Center for International Business at Baylor University will host its 6th Global Business Forum on the theme, “Women in the World Economy.” In developing countries, discriminatory practices that prevent women from working in certain occupations may depress labor productivity by as much as 25 percent.  Our Forum will gather specialists from the academic, business, and public policy communities to explore the changing role of women.   • March 27 - Waco Community Race Relations Coalition (CRRC) film screening: Shadows of the Lynching Tree - This film won Best Documentary at the Dallas Black Film Festival in 2011. It will be shown Tuesday, March 27th, 7-9pm at the Kayser Auditorium in the Hankamer School of Business on the Baylor campus. It is co-sponsored by the Community Race Relations Coalition, Baylor’s Academy for Leader Development, Baylor Chapter of the NAACC and Baylor’s Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.   • March 31 – Resonate: Reconnecting Church and Community Workshop – The Waco Regional Baptist Association and the Community Ministry Team would like to invite you to Resonate: Reconnecting Church and Community. Over the past year, the Community Ministry Team has gone through some exciting changes in our approach to Collegiate, Hunger, and Restorative Justice Ministries. We would like to share these exciting changes so that we can best work and partner together in reconnecting our churches to our communities. In addition, we will be hosting three workshops on the topics of Asset Mapping, Fundraising/Grant Writing, and Advocacy to assist us as we carry out our ministries.
